Elementary class

Small class with a maximum of 4 students

Yan Art Studio aims to inspire creativity, foster critical thinking, and nurture a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Students will develop foundational skills in visual expression, exploring key concepts such as line, color, shape, texture, and space. They will experiment with various mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and clay. By the end of the class, students will have a deeper understanding of artistic principles and a portfolio showcasing their creativity.We prefer that students register for the whole academic year.

What will  be taught

Drawing Skills

Basic Line Drawing: Understanding different types of lines and their use in creating shapes and forms.

Shapes and Forms: Drawing basic geometric and organic shapes to build objects and scenes.

Shading and Texturing: Introduction to light and shadow, creating depth and texture using hatching and cross-hatching.

Perspective Basics: Learning simple one-point and two-point perspectives for spatial awareness.

Sketching: Quick drawing techniques to capture ideas and outlines.

Painting Skills

Color Mixing: Understanding primary, secondary, and tertiary colors and how to mix them.

Brush Techniques: Using different brushes to create textures, strokes, and effects.

Watercolor Basics: Exploring washes, gradients, and layering techniques.

Tempera Painting: Learning how to apply paint thickly or thinly for various effects.

Composition: Arranging elements on the canvas to create balanced and visually appealing artwork.

Printmaking Skills

Mono Printing: Creating unique prints using painted surfaces pressed onto paper.

Block Printing: Using hand-carved blocks to print repetitive patterns.

Texture and Pattern Exploration: Experimenting with found objects like leaves or textured fabrics for prints.

Clay Skills

Hand-Building Techniques:Pinching, Squishing, Patting, Rolling Balls, Pressing, Poking, Tearing, Cutting , Carving

Basic Sculpting: Shaping and molding clay to create simple figures, animals, or abstract forms.

Texture Creation: Using tools, stamps, and natural objects to add surface details.

Understanding Form and Function: Creating objects like bowls or figurines that balance aesthetics and utility.
